Accessibility
The Mills College Art Museum strives to make contemporary art accessible and approachable.
For current information about COVID-19 and our venues, please visit the Northeastern University Oakland campus website.
There are three accessible parking spaces in the parking lot in front of the Art Museum, along with curb cuts to transition to the sidewalk.
The museum entrance can be reached via wheelchair accessible ramp or by climbing a set of seven steps with a handrail. The gallery allows for manual and electric wheelchairs, electric mobility scooters, and other power-driven mobility devices. The Art Museum was built in 1925 and its back offices and collection areas can only be reached by climbing multiple sets of stairs.
Visitors can access restrooms at Danforth Lecture Hall, located 125 feet from the museum across the plaza. Restrooms are wheelchair accessible with automatic doors. The building’s doors are not automatic, but a museum staff member can open them for you if you would like assistance. These are not all gender restrooms and for this we apologize.
Sturdy portable stools are available next to the front desk for visitors to borrow.
Exhibition wall labels are printed in 18- and 16-point type. MCAM is happy to offer tours for all visitors. While our staff are not trained to give descriptive sight tours, they can provide some interpretation and content information.
For programs and events, please let us know if you require specific accommodations or other assistance to participate.
